Reflections Arts Program

PTA Reflections is a nationally acclaimed student recognition program to encourage artistic creativity in the classroom and at home. Students of all grades and abilities may participate and explore the arts based on the 2018-2019 theme: Heroes Around Me

We are happy to announce that Ferguson is participating in the REFLECTIONS program this year!

What is that, you ask?
Started in 1969 by the Colorado PTA President Mary Lou Anderson, Reflections has encouraged millions of students to express themselves by giving positive recognition for their artistic efforts. Students in preschool through grade 12 may create and submit works of art in six categories:

Visual Arts
Accepted forms of visual art include: 2D original painting, drawing, collage (cut and pasted materials, clippings and photos), metal etching. Encourage your child to have fun with this and share something about themselves in their artwork.  Please visit this site for more information.

Dance Choreography
Consider the following styles and ensembles to portray your original choreography: Ballet, contemporary, ethnic and folk, freestyle, hip hop, jazz, street dance, and tap. The dance can be performed by an individual or a group, although only one student may be the choreographer (student submitting entry).

Film Production
Consider the following styles to portray your original work of fiction or nonfiction:
- Animation: Demonstrates motion by sequencing still objects or using computer-generated graphics.
-Narrative: Tells a fictional story developed by the student.
-Documentary: Presents facts and information.
-Experimental: Explores movement, light and montage.
-Multimedia: Uses a combination of different contents (text, audio, still images, animation, etc.)
Encourage your student to have fun and tell their story.

Literature
Consider the following literary styles to portray your original work of fiction or nonfiction: Prose, poetry, drama (screen play and play script), reflective essay, narrative, or short story.
Encourage your student to have fun, be creative, and share their story!

Music Composition:
Consider the following musical styles and instruments to portray your original composition: A cappella, blues, choral, country, electronic, hip hop, jazz, world music, musical, orchestral, pop, R&B, religious, rock, symphonic/concert band and traditional.  Click the link for more information and rules.

Photography:
Accepted forms of photography include: A single photo, panoramic, photomontage (one seamless print of multiple original photos), a multiple exposure, negative sandwich or photogram. Original black-and-white and color images are accepted. Non-accepted forms of photography include: Entries with added graphics over the image, including lettering, are not accepted. Original film (negatives or transparencies) and multidimensional pieces are not accepted. Photo collages not printed as one seamless photo are not permitted in this category.

If you have a SAILOR that would like to contribute something, the deadline for submissions is October 12, 2018 to your homeroom teacher. Be aware, though, one of the rules is that "The student or at least one person from their primary household must be a current member of the Local PTA/PTSA where the student is participating. Each Local PTA/PTSA may determine a date by which the member must join."

That means if you haven't already visited
joinpta.org you will need to do that ASAP.
